1. A Guide for Guests
Alright, so your a guest and you have just stumbled on FD while wandering about the net, or were you invited by a member? Begged by a friend? Or perhaps you got a threatning email that 'puersuaded' you to join? Either way here you are. Are you going to join? Some people take one look and leave. Sure, you can I'm not stopping you. But don't you want to take a look first? Browse the rules? the topics? Just a little peek to see whats up.
To find a good site you want to check out these things:
-Is the main theme what I like?
If you like dragons, welcome home. This site is all about dragons. These dragons live in packs. And if you've ever read the 'warriors' series by Erin Hunter you'll see that it was generally BASED on that, but with dragons instead of cats  . Of course over the 3/4's of a year that this site has been up many changes have been made and it has devolped it's own personality away from the Erin Hunter books. I am not going to explain everything here to you, as there are many topics that have covered it already and are located in the various forums (mostly the 'Rules'). If you like Dragons and fantasy, I would join.
-Does the layout look good?
I can assure you that Flying Deadly will NEVER EVER IN ALL OF ETERNITY have a bright pink and neon green or simlar layout. I am not an HTML wizard, and so many of the layouts have been made by other people and I just added backrounds or something, but I am not colorblind. Any idiot would know that those colors together would just look appaling! So I wouldn't worry about our color scheme. Now graphics, trust me I am and still am very tempted to load this place with lots of cool colorfuln tricks and graphics. But that wouldn't be fair now would it? People with slower computers it would take HOURS for this site to load, plus I have been to overly-graphiced sites and they are just plain annoying most of the time.
-Does it have any special qualites that other sites of this nature don't have?
Well lets see here, we have a whole history of the packs, written by Me. We have various legends and stories, plus we have a dancing banana smilie! We are also one of the only dragon RPG's that has a cool roll-over user legend. Also we are a very free site, not very strict, but not too easy either.
-Is it active?
There was one time back in December that we call 'The Great Depression' because our sever (sever 13) went down for a good two weeks! We lost many members and some of our Overlords! Unfortunatly when it came back people had almost forgotton about FD! And inactiveness continued! But no matter, that is all send and done with and all the very inactive members had been deleted.
Now, once you've checked these things out, and find out you like it here you probably should do these things before you join:
-Read the Rules
This is VERY important and you might REALLY want to do this before you join. Many members tend to join and then read the rules, they find a rule they disagree with and BAM and inactive member. We do NOT want these. So please go over ALL of the rules before you join, and if you disagree: don't join. It's as simple as that. But PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT spam our members board with inactive members.
-Read some Posts
You don't have to read ALL of them, just a few from different members to get yourself used to what you will be posting with. Are there posts about the same as your posts? Do you think you could keep up with them? If the answer is no I would consider joining a little more carefully. Don't forget to look at more then one topic. Some days we are being really creative and make 30 paragraph posts, other days we are so dead that it's barely ONE paragraph.

Discription: Bloodrayn is a rather large dragon. Not large as in weight, but large in length and height. From tip of nose to tip of tail, she is some 78ft long. And she stands 40ft from ground to shoulder. Her height comes mostly from her long legs. Her tail is what makes up the most of her length. Her tail it's self is just about 2/3 of her entire length. Her chest is muscular and her legs bulge with muscles. As she walks you can see each of her muscles moving and rolling together like a well oiled machine under her thick skin. She has four claws on her front feet, one of the claws is like a thumb, the claws on her fingers are around 4ft long each, a pearly white in color. she weighs in at one and a half tons, very light weight because of the 'hollow' bone structure she has. It's light weight yet very strong, a criss-cross of a webbed pattern with holes inbetween, much like a bird's bones. She has thick armored plated scales on her throat, chest, and basically the entire underside of her body, the scales coming up a bit onto her sides.
Her wings span is something to marvel at, when fully exstened..her wings span 165 feet to lift her body off the ground. Two 8ft long ivory colored horns exstend from the back of her skull, and a ridge of spines contected by skin, comes from her head, all the way down to the tip of her tail. Her coloration is where she gets her name from. Her body is a deep liquid blood red color, and the tips of each scale is a death abyss black color. The spines on her back are tipped with death abyss black, and her wing tips are also death abyss black. Her eyes are a vivd posionous green, and her fangs are an off-white ivory color.
This dragon also bares a few scars. On the left side of her face, is a jagged dagger shaped scar, and on the right side of her muzzle are four slash marks, claw markings, and over her right eye, is a jagged scar.
Personality: very quick witted, an intelligent thinking in all aspects. fierce, friary, bullheaded, hot headed, hot blooded, with an easily flaming temper. She is loyal once she learns to trust someone. But earning her trust can take a long time. For Bloodrayn is very careful when it comes to choosing her friends. She chooses them very carefully. Sometimes she can be quick to judge others, and can be quick to snap. Always ready to defend herself, or attack. She rarely allows herself to open up her mind and heart to others. She likes to keep to her self, and she has a very high rate of independence, she never lets other push her around. Sometimes, Bloodrayn can be unforgiving and cold. And she loves to fight.
Bloodrayn also has some..well..slight issues you could say. She's got a split personality thats completely insane. She always seems to be anger and fast to get even angerier. So it's best to keep her on a short leash. It's best if you don't prod at her too much and give her, her space when she needs it..other wise you'll be in for a rather nasty suprise..and you really don't want to get on her bad side.
Because of her brutal past..Bloodrayn is..she's just plain INSANE!!!!! Trusting hardly anyone, Bloodrayn would kill you as soon as look at you. She doesn't care who you are..if you tick her off or get in her way..you're dead meat. Bloodrayn is as blood-thirsty as they come. Exstremely violent and Dark..you never know when she's going to snap. Her rage seems never ending. She's cold and merciless, cold to death..and cold to life. she seems to hate everything, and she's vengeful as well. She hardly talks..and when she does..she never beats around the bush..she tells you what she thinks straight up.
Love, Bloodrayn learned..can hurt much deeper than any flesh wound. She knows what it;s like to have her mind shattered..her heart bleeding..and her soul screaming. So she usually shows no other emotions than anger..and aggression.
History: I was born 50 years ago in Kyoto, Japan. It was four years after the grand revolution had taken place. The dragons had just started coming back together..forming small packs. I was born to Kyo..my mother..who was the alpha female..and one of the greatest hunters of her time. And my father's name was Shane..and he was of course the alpha male. My father was well known..and held with very high respect not just by our pack..but by the other dragons that lived in Japan as well. There was a reason why they called him The Demon of the West. He was the most powerful dragon in all of western Japan.
Now..you would think I had a rather happy life as a hatchling. It was not so. My two brothers and sister were all born nromal sized and normal colored for Western Japanese Dragons. But I wasn't. I was the last to be born..and I was nearly double to size of my siblings. They only weighed two pounds each where as I weighed four pounds. My body was also completely different from their's. They were all a mix of black, grey, cream, white, and silver...just like our parents. But me...I was a deep liquid blood red color. And my Spines were tipped with death abyss black, as were each of my scales and my wings.
But the strangest thing about me..were my eyes. Most new born dragons won't open their eyes until at least two weeks of age. And most dragons are born deaf as well. I wasn't. A few hours after being born..I opened my eyes..and only an hour after being born..I could ear perfectly. My mother was actually slightly frightened of me at first.
And that was mainely because of my eyes. My eyes were a vivd posionous green. Many of my packmate were afraid of me because of my eyes. My mother thought I was born blind..but I wasn't. But my father actually took pride in my strange appearence and abilities. He trained me night and day for the first year of my life to take over his position as...The Demon of the West. And believe me..the training he put me through was living hell.
I rather enjoyed killing too much for my own good when on hunts. And my pack mates completely shunned me and wouldn't allow me to join in on their games...and my father said I was too strong and too large to play with them. I was forbiddion to play with them. I was then completely seperated from my pack mates and made to train for insanely long periods of time. It was test after test after test! But I learned to push all those weaknesses aside.
I can go an two weeks without eating..I can go for three days straight without sleep. I can run for 200 miles without slowing, or stopping at all. I can kill my prey in completely silence.
Soon..my pack begane to turn on me..they casted me ice cold glares..denying me the right to even live. They wouldn't talk to me and would raise their lips and snarl at me..even attack me when they passed by me. They refused to let me join them on hunting trips and would keep me away from the kill. And when I made my own kills they would all gang up on me and steal my food. I was made to live on the boarderlines of the pack terratory. And rouge dragons..dragons from other packs would constantly attack me and shun me..hate me..and spit on me. I didn't fight back..knowing my father would be furious with me.
It was then I realized what had happened. My father was merely using me. He was in the conquest for more land and more power. And he had trained me to be a mere killing machine. Thats all I knew how to do..was to kill. I was never taught anything else. He didn't love me...I was just a tool for him. And he covered the whole thing up with pretty and fancy words. Such as Ninja or Shinobi. I heard talk amung humans once..saying that ninja and shinobi were nothing more than tools used by their nation for war and protection..and would be tossed aside like useless junk when they could no longer fight her were no longer needed.
I was livid..I was outraged. I was not going to let my father do this to me! I set off back to the packs main den with a feirce intent of confronting my father. But on the way back..I noticed one of my friends. He was the son of the omega who had been force bred by a rouge dragon. He had a life much like mine..accepted he was just plain rejected. He was corned by a pack of rouge dragons..about my age. I knew what he was going through. So I went over to help him out.
Right before a fight broke out..my father appeared. He said he had no more use for me..and tried to kill me! I barely managed to escape, I was left with the scar over my eye, across my face..and on my muzzle. For years I hid out in a remote moutnain side, then finally, about ten years ago..I went back and challenged my father. He had grown old and weak, while I had grown tall and strong. I killed him right infront of the entire pack, and left his corpes to the ravens. For the past ten years I've been drifting from place to place..strengthing my fighting skills and eventually wandering to Deadly flight.
Powers: It's not really a power..but she her fire breath is very odd, She can shoot jets of flames over a distance of nearly 250ft! And her flame comes not from 'magic' but from two glands on the roof of her mouth. Each gland hold a liquid..and when the glads contract..two jets of liquid shoot out, criss-cross..and explode! In essence..natrual napom! This fire is hot enought to burn through scale, flesh..and bone in less than a minute, and it can very easily melt rock.

Now this is a GREAT joining form, yes even though I removed the RP Example and the codeword. But trust me it was great. Look at the length of the personality and discription, how it is all put together, it is obviously one that was worked hard on. Unless you are breaking any rules, a form like this will ALWAYS be accepted.
This is a Good Form:

Discription: Stonefang is a smaller dragon, with a massive temper when pushed. He leads a pack that is made up of large mean dragons, even though he is so small they abide by his laws. His body is long and narrow, built for fast flying and swimming. Stonefang is a medium blue, with green eyes. His wings are battered and ripped. At the end of his tail there is a flipper. Stonefang has large claw-like pokes coming out of neck. A crest on his head. He was meant to go fast, so has sharp talons that dig into the ground easily.
Personality: Stonefang gets a temper often, mostly because the pack he leads is always getting into fights with each-other. Although Stonefang has never been known to have a soft-spot, I know the truth. Stonefang once fell in love with a she-dragon and she ended up dying. He turned from happy to devastated to revengeful. So now, he won't cut any tresspasser any mercy.
History: Stoefang was young and about to be killed when the med. dragon told them to stop. He said, "Running Mist has spoken to me. They say Stonehatch will be made leader, and reign over all of us." At the time, he didn't know what that meant. Then as he got older, he knew that he was destined to be the best leader ever. When still young he met a she-dragon by the name of Hissingstone. They fell in love and were about to have hatchlings when Hissingstone was killed in a battle. He swore revenge on Firepack because they had started it. He then became leader and was greatly liked. Though he still looks up to the night sky in search of Hissingstone and Chippedfang and he mother, he will never have a soft-spot again.
Powers: Stonefang has the ability to change his weight at any point in time. If he wants to bash into something hard, he can change his weight to a million times heavier. He also is very good at being an acrobat. He can crawl this way and that. And can swing around trees. Very stealthy.
Rp example:Stonefang watched from above as the battle broke out in his camp yet again. He was perched on top of Deathrock, and was smirking to himself. His deputy was standing beside him barking orders. "Sit down." Stonefang said in an icily tone that sent shivers up any one's spine. Stonefang watched as his deputy eventually sat back down and watched the fight.

Now this is a pretty good form, it's stable, nice, fits all requirments and gives a good lookin at the character. A form like this will never be turned away but will not be admired as much as the one above.

Okay, can we say mega disaster! FIrst, the name. You mostly have good freedom with names but 'Pickle?' for a dragon? Come on be a little creative here! Then the rank, leader? For one Icepack already has a good leader, and for two leaders names HAVE to end in 'fang'. The Gender is okay, though we prefer male or female instead of 'dude' and 'dudette'. Age, 50....what? Dragon years? human years? Seconds? Wheres the unit!? Putting the smilie picture for your main picture is also very annoying, and unless your dragon looks like that you shouldn;t do it. Discription, okay lets at LEAST start out with real words! Not chatspeak! And a good three more LONG sentences should be on that. Same with personality and History, a whole bunch more for history. Powers, no dragon can be all powerful, if this person had read the rules they would have known that. I'm not even going into the RP Example! This is an AUTOMACTIC REJECTION! IN any case.
B. Form Checklist
Once you've been able to check all this off you should have an acceptable form:
___I have added an appropraite name according to my character
___The age is the correct age for my dragons rank. (SOME I repeat SOME warriors can get away with being a greenhorn age, such as a kucha, but only if they were warriors when they came to the pack)
___The codeword is in my form
___My dragons powers are sutible and s/he is not overly powerful
___My Discription, personality and RP Example is 4 or more complete sentences
___My History is 5-6 complete sentences.
___I understand all the rules and regulations
___I have filled out all the spots in my form
___I have used correct puncuation and have tried my best on spelling
___I have put effort in my form
C. What NOT to do
Doing these things is not agaisnt the rules but it can annoy the snot out of us and we may not accept you, try to avoid these things:
-Do NOT bug an admin for acceptence
-Do NOT bump your board unless it has been a good 24 hours
-Do NOT use chatspeak in your form or posts
-Do NOT use bad grammer, grammer counts and capitilzation is important
-Do NOT have the same pictures as a main character or other character unless that person had allowed you to use it.
-Do NOT ask us about stuff that is in the rules
-Do NOT ask other members what the codeword is
3. Your First Post
Your very first IC post with your character can be one of the most important, so if you know you have to go and only jot down a few lines I would wait to post untill you have time to make a nice one.
Your first post should do these things:
-Give a small intro to your character, or overall feel of the characters personality
-Maybe a small memory or other way to include a bit of your characters history
-Show your skill as an RPer
Of course you don't have to do these things, these are just some suggestions. Now everyone's first post is almost ALWAYS ignored for a while. I remeber my first post (on another site) where it took almost a week for someone to reply! But don't be discourged. There are not huge amounts of members here and many want to post, but all there characters are filled up. Here are some handy tips to get someone to reply to you faster:
-Make friends.
You'd be surprised how often this works, while you are waiting for someone to post in IC, check out the OOC board and browse about. There is a games, art, Random, astrology, facts, funny stuff board, and much more there. Start a conversation, or if no one is there do some Pming. What you should NOT do is pm someone with something simalar to the following:

Trust me, people will not want to post with you if you annoy them. You should just start with a casual conversation then ask to see if they'll rp with you, polietly of course ^^. - Join Other PostsIf it's taking FOREVER for someone to reply, try joining another persons posts, but make sure to look and see if it's active ^^, Usually there are a lot of new people who are waiting for someone to post in theres. Do them a favor, and post! 4. Staying ActiveNo, I do not mean physical activity. I mean good steady posts, as often as possible. Now heres how to be active: -Post at least once a week, this is ACCEPTABLE, but really once a day is a good thing. ^^ -If you are a higher position or would like to make a good impression long good posts and very often are good. 5. Advancing to Higher PositionsOkay, so you've gotton past the hardest part of being a Flying Deadly Member, and now you want some power. Well this is what we (or Me and Stone anyways) when we are picking new admins. 1. They have been there for AT LEAST 2 months. 2. The majority of members get along with them. 3. WE get along with them. 4. The other admins trust them 5. Their posts are lengthy or detailed. 6. They have been very active. Also we may like it if you'd have admin experience elsewhere, but thats not required. ^^ And there you go, your complete and handy guide to Flying Deadly!
